My name is Jackie Vargas-Oñate I am excited to be able to guide our Cristo Rey Alumni and be a part of their educational journey.

Raised in Sacramento, as a first-generation college graduate my educational journey was not an easy one. After transferring from Sacramento City College to Sacramento State University, I was overwhelmed and inadequately prepared for the rigor of college coursework. Not knowing where to go for help I soon found myself on academic dismissal and out of my way of receiving an education.

However, unwilling to give up I re-enrolled at Sacramento City College and sought out resources and mentorship that has lasted a lifetime. Thanks to my community I was able to successfully transfer and graduate from the University of California, Riverside with a BA in Ethnic Studies. Continuing my academic pursuit, I went on to receive a MA in Educational Counseling with a PPS credential from San Jose State.

Having worked for community college counseling and UC undergraduate admissions, I intend on using this knowledge in helping our Alumni. No matter where you are in your educational journey, I am here to help you reach your goals. I hope to pay forward what all of my mentors have done for me by helping the next generation.

I look forward to meeting and working with the Cristo Rey Community!
